A Farmer Champion is a member of the food service community that strives to strengthen and grow Georgia’s local food movement by purchasing from local and organic producers while simultaneously verifying those purchases with Georgia Organics through invoice submission.

THE FARMER CHAMPION BUSINESSES

We began collecting invoices from prepared food businesses across Georgia in 2019 and are grateful for those who have been participating in our program year over year. From 2021-2024, 56 Farmer Champion businesses spent $1,141,820 on local food in 14 weeks - that’s 36% of their combined total food cost.

The seven 2024 awardees spent $62,825 in just two weeks - that’s 64% of their total food cost! Thank you Dandelion Food and Goods, Evergreen Butcher and Baker, Kinship Butcher and Sundry, Little Bear, Ry’s Table, The Deer and The Dove, and Twisted Soul Cookhouse and Pours - your work is so appreciated.

The chefs and owners purchasing local food week after week, month after month, year after year do it because they want to. We are grateful to all our Farmer Champions for their hard work.

THE FARMER CHAMPION COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

In 2024, we partnered with The Common Market Southeast through the ACRE Collective to enroll our inaugural class of Farmer Champion Colleges and Universities.

Agnes Scott College, Mercer University, Oglethorpe University and Spelman College are committed to serving their students local food at least $400/week on average and we’re happy to celebrate them for their efforts!
